Cooper, 10, Aicardi-Goutieres Syndrome

Wishmaker Star - Cooper, 10

Just before he turned 2, crusader Cooper with his gorgeous smile was diagnosed with Aicardi-Goitieres Syndrome, a very rare neurological disease resulting in profound motor and speech delays.

Now at school and whizzing around in motorized wheelchairs and using standing frames to help improve overall strength and flexibility, Cooper wished to "go to the snow for the first time and throw snowballs" – which was granted in September 2022!

His mum Kyrsten says Cooper first learned about snow watching ‘Frozen’, the movie.

Watch Cooper throw a snowball

"He thought it was magical, and hilarious when they threw snowballs in 'Frozen',” she said. “He decided then he’d love to one day throw a snowball at his big brother and dad and build a snowman," said Krysten.

Cooper’s little face when we first drove up and he saw the snow was priceless. He was so excited. All he wanted to do was touch it. He threw snowballs, be built snowmen, he threw off the gloves so he could get right in there - yes cold fingers!

Lara, 7, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia

Wishmaker Star - Lara, 7

7-year-old Lara is a water baby, she loves all things water, from swimming to the beach. But due to her treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, she was unable to go into the water for over 9 months. To make up for lost time, Lara of course, wished for 'a water-filled holiday!' Lara and her family travelled to the Gold Coast, where they explored SeaWorld and Wet’n’Wild in February 2023.

Stacey, Lara’s mum says spending time together as a family and away from the hospital was amazing.

“When your child is going through cancer treatment, it’s difficult to make plans beyond the current day. To have this time to look forward to as a family was really special!"

Lara goes on her water-filled holiday!

"Our highlights were the kids first plane ride, the resort which had endless amounts of pools (Lara wish was to swim aaaall day), sea world and the dolphin experience. Our kids have such fond memories and keep asking when we can go again!" says Stacey.

Even though she is only 7, Lara is able to comprehend what Make-A-Wish did for her, so when she was asked to be a part of ‘Wishmaker’ she didn’t hesitate because she wants to give back to those that helped her. She has always been confident - but she’s pretty happy showing everyone her photos and telling them all about it!
